Bread Pudding

Bread Pudding

My heart aches for her
My mother is gone
But her tie tips in my heart
As all mothers dwell, inside the heart
A simple memory — The Hitch* was famous for its bread pudding
My husband says at dinner out
Our date turns to tears in an instant
My mother is sitting with us in the booth
My husband and her were friends
How she loved him so

We remimense of a memory that is his
I am lost to know how my mother loved
bread pudding
But Rich, my husband knows
He knows much more than I give him credit for
He loves me most
and this I am grateful for
Christmas marinated memories so.

*The Hitch is a nickname for The Hitching Post Hotel in Cheyenne, Wyoming that was an elegant old school country and western hotel that Willie Nelson himself preferred to stay at when playing in Cheyenne during Frontier Days.
