I was very excited today to see a 6th grade student at the middle school I work at wearing a University of Wyoming t-shirt. It was nice to see the bucking bronco. I asked him where he got the shirt and he said he didn’t know.
I always get a kick out of seeing Wyoming stuff like license plates and t-shirts in North Carolina. I saw a Wyoming hoodie at the county fair and I stopped to ask the young college kid. He too didn’t know where he got it.
I miss my homeland. The South still feels very foreign to me.
The South can even feel foreign to those of us who’ve been here all our lives. I can only imagine how it must feel to a newcomer.

I have yet to learn how to speak Southernese. I think I freak people out with my directness…I am also a little abrasive by nature…but I mean well. My mom was a New York native so I can be bone honest. I wish I could be more diplomatic but we all have our gifts.
There are some things I find quite enchanting about the South like Dogwood trees. I still haven’t figured out what “Bless your heart” means…is it an insult sometimes or always? I have heard it so many ways but it seems when one says, “Bless his/her heart” using a third person pronoun it is meant to be condescending. But “Bless your heart” using second person can go either way — meaning sincere or not sincere.
People are people though…and I like people (most of the time). I do miss the honesty if Wyoming’s landscape…those mountains always point me home! You can take the girl out of Wyoming, but you can’t take Wyoming out of the girl.
Thanks for your comment. 🙂
